RSCM Music Sunday

ECS in Florence and Siena

We have recently returned from a short trip to Florence and Sienna – a concert and two services were punctuated by a fascinating tour of the renaissance architecture of Florence by an expert choir member, excellent food and good company.

It was a rare treat to sing in two fascinating churches – St Marks Florence and St Peter’s Siena with music ranging from Peter Aston, Faure and Stainer through to Byrd and Gibbons. Wherever we went we were ably accompanied by our host, St Mark’s organist Peter Shepherd.

Sunday Eucharist at St Marks, at which ECS sang alongside the regular church choir a, was followed by a private visit to the church by Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall. Some of our choir members caught a glimpse from the pavement outside (photo Petra Sleeman):

2017 Events

European Cathedral Singers will be be singing in Florence and Sienna in the last weekend of March. Our summer cathedral visit is to York Minster from Monday August 7th to Sunday August 13th, where we will be singing in all services while the choir is on holiday.

Our annual Choral Festival this year will be held in The Hague on Saturday 10th June 2017.

We also held a very successful choral workshop in The Hague in February: Byrd Songs and other Music, led By Christina Edelen.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Alicia Fielding Camacho, Caroline Walcot and Karalyn Gardner, of St Andrew’s Church of Scotland in Brussels, for passing the Voice for Life Silver Medal exams.
If you are interested in doing a Voice for Life Bronze or Silver Award, please let us know.

Call for singers – Ripon 23-24 July 2016

A group of singers known as Cantores Willibrordi (so named because of the connection between St Willibrord, Ripon and Luxembourg) will be singing in Ripon Cathedral over the weekend of Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th July. The choir will be directed by Alan Carlisle with Gordon Appleton as organist. We are looking for singers in all voice parts. Singers will be responsible for arranging their own accommodation.

Music will include a Mass setting composed by Alan on the occasion of the Anglican Church in Luxembourg’s 50th anniversary; this will be its first performance outside Luxembourg. Music for this, as well as details of other music to be sung, will be emailed to singers well in advance.

If you are interested in joining this group, please let Pam Carlisle (pamela(at)sarumlux.net) know as soon as possible.
